I've been back in Kuala Lumpur from Siem Reap for a week now... Gosh, the week has just flown by. I'm starting to lose all sense of time and have to constantly remind myself what day or date it is (Ronan, my (ex)colleague, told me this would happen and if I wasn't careful, I would soon be missing flights or buses. If you read some of the other travel blogs, this seems to be an ailment that afflicts most travellers! Thanks for the tip R).
I have had a very relaxing week. Aside from planning trips, I've been spending lots of time with my family and friends; lazing by the pool (on the several occasions the sun was out - lots of rain here at the moment); doing some shopping (big sales are on now and KL really is a shoppers' haven so I have to keep reminding myself that whatever I buy goes round the world with me); and listening to Duffy (I can't get over how good her Rockferry album is!!). Last Monday, I had a delicious dinner with friends at Nero Vivo (a cosy Italian place), then continued to a jazz bar called No Black Tie where my friend Sze performed (Sze, you did good!). I had a very long lunch with loads of beer with my brother on Wednesday. That was good fun. On Thursday, my friends Allan and Nigel hosted a lovely dinner at their place. The grilled pizzas were awesome - just sooo great to have friends who really know how to cook well! :-) And yesterday, I spent the afternoon helping my Mum with her charity work. In the evening, I went out for dinner to a Japanese restaurant with a group of friends (how much sake did we have?!!) after which we went to Frangipani, a very cool club with many pretty people for more drinks - I'm sure the photos will be popping up on facebook real soon! KL really is a fun place, if you know where to go. Check out the KL entry on my website: http://www.velvetescape.com/kuala%20lumpur.html
I've been thinking of ways to 'spice up' my blog and I've decided to introduce the OMG ('Oh My God') Factor scale. I know it sounds corny but I kind of like it :-) The scale will be from 1('did I come all this way just to see this?') to 10 ('jaw-dropping awesome'). The purpose of this scale is to assist in putting my experiences into some kind of perspective. For instance, my trip to Angkor Wat would definitely be rated a 9 on the OMG factor scale. Nigel and Allan's grilled pizzas: 8 :-) Traffic in KL: 1.
There's a minor change to my travel plans. I was initially planning to go to Redang Island, off the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. I've heard lots of stories of how spectacular those eastern islands are: crystal clear water, colourful coral reefs, pristine white sandy beaches, out-of-this world snorkelling/diving opportunities, etc... Anyway, instead of Redang Island I'm heading for Lang Tengah Island which is not too far from Redang. The island is a wee bit smaller than Redang and a lot less touristy but the resort I'm going to: D'Coconut Lagoon Resort looks awesome. I'm leaving on Monday and will spend three nights there. I'll be back in KL on Thursday and the following Monday, I'm off again, this time to Krabi, Thailand.
Ciao!
