This Friday was Swedish National Day or Swedish Flag Day. It is sort of like meant to be the 4th of July in Sweden, but the holiday is so new that few traditions have been ingrained yet to make it really exciting. So instead of just hanging around at home on this free day from work Staffan and I decided to visit Sofiero Slott. Sofiero Slott is a castle that the King and Queen of Sweden once called their home and lies on the coast facing Denmark. They have beautiful Rhododendron flowers that are perfect to see this time of year and they bloom in to crazy heights. Since it was going to be a nice day we decided to check it out.

Also on the grounds we sampled some ny potatis (or fresh potatoes) they are small type of potatoe that is only eaten during this time of year. There were four varieties we tried we like the Maris Peer the best. And bought a kilo to take home.

We drove South to have lunch in a little fishing harbor called Ålabordarna and ate some food we bought from the supermarket on the jetty and watched the boats go by.

Later on we headed home then picked up Mats and headed to Denmark on a beer run . For some reason it is cheaper to buy beer in Denmark and being only 30 minutes away we headed over there. After our run at the market we met Kalle and Mårten in the harbor of Nyhavn where they had sailed over from Sweden earlier in the day and had some dinner with them. Then headed back to Sweden having traveled up and down the coast all day long.
