We were planning on heading to Ubud today, with a short stop to see the water palace in Tirta Gangga, but when Kristina started reading about the area, she came up with the idea of staying overnight here instead.

Tirta Gangga itself is a water palace - an enclosed area with lots of ponds, fountains and gardens. Really nice area, but the 'town' is right in the middle of a rice growing area, so the whole country side is covered with beautiful terraced rice fields.

One of the owners of Mama Dive gave us a ride here this morning and will pick us up tomorrow again to take us the rest of the way to Ubud (350' for the whole trip). We're staying at Homestay Rijasa (100', cold water, fan) which is just across the road from the water palace.

We spent the morning walking around the countryside taking in the view and then checking out the water palace before the afternoon rains hit. The rainy season has well and truly arrived now, a month late, which the locals are glad about. To be honest, a bit of enforced relaxation in the afternoons isn't too much of a price to pay for being here in the low season. Both here and in Amed there are very few tourists at the moment.
