Where I stayed
Kaunas was really surprising I was expecting just a dirty big city seen as its Lithuanias 2nd city but it was lovely a very quaint old town and all cobbled streets and outside cafes very pretty architecture. It would be a great place for a weekend break from the UK and apparently Ryanair fly there too.
I don't know whether it was a one off or a weekly event but there was a brilliant street market that stretched about 1.5km down the main street that sold all sorts most importantly to us beer and nice food( Pork Knuckle with potato and Sourkraut for £2.50 and a beer for less than £1) it reminded me a bit of the xmas markets you find in Germany
Lithuania are playing in the basketball world cup until we arrived here I wouldn't have had a clue it was even on but its pretty much an obsession here and they were playing what I think was the semi final tonight which was shown in the main square thousands of people seemed to be going to watch it all with beers in hand although surprisingly no one seemed to have anymore than 2 - not quite like watching the football world cup in England!! From what I can gather Lithuania lost but you would have thought they had won they were all really happy chanting and singing.
After a fair few drinks it was off to bed tomorrow we had a long walk to the train station for our train to Vilnius.
