Leaving Tasmania today. Had breakfast at the B & B we stayed at which was built in 1825. Then drove around downtown Hobart before heading to Richmond. The drive was thru a nice valley where they have many vineyards. Richmond has a former "Gaol" that served the area. As I understand it, the Arthur that Port Arthur was named after would send English prisoners out to various areas around Tasmania and this was one of them. They also had a large “Gaol” at Port Arthur. I think they also refer to their prisons as “Factories”. Tasmania was basically founded as a penal colony by the English. Went to a hilltop viewpoint for a great view of Hobart and the surrounding bays. It's quite a hilly place for miles around. Mt. Wellington sits above Hobart.
