Southern Cross train station to get to the airport for our 8:15 flight to Launceston,
Tasmania. Sat next to an Aussie who grew
up in Tasmania. His mother passed away
so he was heading home from the Snowy Mountains south of Sydney. His brother is head of the Mason County PUD maintenance
dept. and lives in Shelton. Andrew
introduced us to his brother at the airport where they gave us some ideas on
touring Tas. Andrew’s wife is from
Slovenia and he described the road that we drove on with Barry & Kittyt when we were there in 2008
G.O.R we just drove. Really small world again!
Everyone in Aus. Is so friendly.
Picked up our Heland Barina at the airport and drove into
Launceston on the Tamar River. Stayed at
a B & B built in 1881. Went for a long drive out to Beauty Point and stopped by Seahorse World and Platypus
House. Didn’t go to either but watched a
bit of the seahorse movie. Quite
interesting. The male actually carries
the eggs for birth.
On the way back we went to the Cataract Gorge on the South
Esk river which is in Launceston. www.ltvtasmania.com.au.
They have the World’s longest single span chairlift which we rode across the
river. Then we hiked for a couple of
hours and about 2.5 miles. In 1895 they
created the first hydroelectric station in Australasia here. Powered the whole city. Went to the Irish Pub and had bangers and
