We catch a bus out to the beach and then have to walk for 20 minutes over a small hill to reach the beach. Along the way there is a massive sand dune that you can sandboard down. We check it out but aren`t really keen on the sandboarding as it doesn`t look steep enough. Plus the wind is pretty strong up here and whips the sand into your skin really painfully.
We reach the beach and its a really nice beach - good & long with nice white sand
The weather clouds over so after taking a few pictures of the beach we head back up the road to a restaurant we saw earlier. But it looks a bit average when we go inside so we decide to head back to the place near our hostel we`ve had lunch at most of the time. Unfortunately we miss the bus and have to wait 30 minutes before the next one. Finally one comes and with spots of rain appearing outside and our stomachs rumbling we venture towards our hostel. But when we get to the lunch place it is closed along with pretty much every other eatery - maybe its siesta time or something.
Luckily we find a little pastry place and get a few (very unhealthy) pastries including one which is two frankfurters smoothered in cheese and wrapped in pastry,...tasty!! We head back to the hostel and hang about in the hammocks with Alberto (the Italian guy) and Jenine & Germain (the swiss and german girls)
We play some Uno for a bit which is the first time I`ve played since Colombia where we played almost every day for a while. We have some beers and then move on to the local Brazilian drink of choice Caprinha which is a suger cane rum mixed with lime and more raw suger. Strong but really tastey. We are treated to a really tasty bbq that the owners cook up for us and then we all head off to a hostel down the road which is having its opening night tonight.
Its a cool hostel located up a small hill so it looks out over the beach (well what you can see of it at night time anyway). We hang there for a while before moving on to another rooftop terrace where a live band is about to play. Its pretty empty inside but within 30 minutes the place has packed out.
We dance around for a while and then Matty & Alberto head off leaving me with the girls. The Florianopolis region apparently has about 4 women to every man and this bar seems to be on par with that - good fun. It means I get a few free dance lessons from the local girls. I get the usual "you´re need to move your hips" advice - I have got this all through south america so I`m obviously pretty average at it.
We dance the night away for a bit before me and Germain (Janine had run off with a Brazilian) head back to find Matty and Alberto still up talking to a crazy Urugyian guy at the hostel. I decide to leave them to it and after a quick shower head straight to bed.
