Friday we spent the day down south of Reedsport, starting in Winchester Bay looking at the boats and getting a good view of the calmer side of the ocean. We also had a look at what looked like the most authentic fish n' chips restaurant (Unger), which I am sure my English boyfriend will be visiting when he comes to spend time with the family.
Then we headed up to the jetty and then up in the hills to get a good view of the Umpqua and the Smith River.
Loads of stories of the my Grandad and his Dad fishing the river, getting stuck on the shortcut during low tide and waiting it out at 2am.
I had already visited the Umpqua lighthouse the afternoon before, which was the first lighthouse that I'd been able to see with all the fog during the week. Definitely worth visiting since it also has some pretty good views of the river and some tips on whale watching.
Florence is where both of my parents grew up, or at least did most of their growing, so I've got loads of memories from Florence and it's surrounding areas. The idea of staying in Florence for so long was really to spend time with my grandparents first, but to get an idea of how far my roots went in the central Oregon coast region. Turns out I had the best tour guide of all just in the family!
