You can tell life's picked up pace now my emails are getting more frequent.

Popayan
is a beautiful little town 1700m up in some part of the Andes - the
Andes splits into 3 in Colombia and each range has a different name.
Many of the people look to have more in common with the Quechuan
indians in Peru than with coastal Colombians.  Some women even wear the
Andean costume of bowler hat and very full colourful skirts.  The
weather seems to be much like Beckenham during the summer - cloudy and
humid with the odd burst of sunshine and then showers.  There's hot
water showers and quilts on the beds at the hostel - had my first hot
shower for 5 weeks today!!

There's a (quite perky) volcano 3 or
4 hours away in a national park where they're reintroducing Andean
condors from San Diego zoo - surfer dude condors! - which I'd like to
visit.  But tomorrow I'm off to San Agustin on the bus (5-7 hours - oh
how I'm looking forward to that).  I'd hoped that there would be an
organised tour from here but no such luck, I have to do it myself by
bus.

San
Agustin is famous for its pre Columbian statues.  I'm going to stay in
a yurt in an ecolodge so I imagine there wont be email.  From there
I'll try to get a series of buses to within 2km of Tierradento, which
is a site totally unique in the Americas for its underground burial
chambers.  I've packed my torch.  Then back to Popayan for a few more
days.  I'm leaving my troll here in the hostel
