The rule goes that the more time and cost involved in getting from the airport the bigger and more prestigious the town.Arrived in Popayan this afternoon and if I'd known the way to the hostel I could have walked it in 10 minutes! The taxi fare was GBP1. Very nice, shiny new hostel, not quite as cheap as my Cartagena place and I have to share a bathroom, but I'll wager it doesn't rain in this room. Had to change planes in Bogota - it was freezing, it was pouring and people were wearing winter coats. Very glad I just had time to get a little bus to the propeller plane where men stood with umbrellas over the 6 steps to board. Will explore properly tomorrow when hopefully it wont be so cloudy.
