For once, I will let the pics speak (mostly) for themselves. As mentioned in the last post, we hiked from Kalaw to Inle Lake over the course of two days. Since arriving at Inle Lake, we have only set our feet on solid earth once--the hotels, restaurants, monasteries, temples, markets and villages here are all built on stilts above a huge, beautiful, shallow lake. Folks cruise around in motorized canoes, while fisherpeople paddle by, using their feet to row (see pics). For the most part, we have been sitting on our deck, reading and NOT trekking.

The only non-relaxing thing about this place is the amplified prayer calls that last until 1am and start up again at 5 am--there is almost no technology in the little villages, but the speaker system is apparently world class.

This morning we took a boat to a taxi to a flight and now we are camped out in the airport for the next four hours while we wait for our flight from Yangon to Borneo. Bye bye Burma.

PS. The pics of the jumping cats were taken by Kyla (of course) and are dedicated to Eggie. They are from a monastery in which the monks train cats to jump through hoops in their spare time.

PPS. I've also included some drawing made with the mini-monk and our guides from the Kalaw-to-Inle trek. I forgot to include them in the last post.

PPPS. We met some fabulous NY tribe-members, traveling for 4 months with their fun 18-year old daughter in Hsipaw, and then we saw them again last night for dinner in Inle. I tried to get them to adopt us, with no luck (sorry mom, but they were headed to Greece for a month, which sounds only slightly more interesting than Newton). Anyway, they took down our blog info, so I thought I'd give them a shout out in case they are reading.

Those pictures are BEAUTIFUL! And um, I'm not sure what to say about the cats. Jumping through hoops? Wow. Did you learn the trick? That's amazing. Can't wait to see what Eggie has to say about that. Incredible. Miss you guys! Val - these blog posts are awesome!
