I’ll give you the positives first. The people on Amtrak are not felons just released from prison or jail (apparently there is a difference) so you can have a conversation without worrying that the person will suddenly revert to their old ways. The seats do have more room, and foot rests. As with all trains you can get up and walk around to stop your body from getting stiff.
Now for the negatives. The food is worse than hospital or airport food. They are marketing everything and they are really sly about it, for example, they have the air conditioning set to FREEZING and then sell "souvenir blankets" for $15… if that is not a ploy to get you to buy crap from them then I don’t know what is. Finally, despite the extra space and the footrest, sleeping on the Amtrak is just as difficult as sleeping on the Greyhound. They also cost double the amount as the Greyhound.
Overall, my view on the transport methods I’ve used so far are that the Amtrak is too expensive for what it offers, Greyhound is horrid because you can never seem to meet decent people and hitchhiking is mostly pros but getting into trucks is not one of them. I still have to try out a bus system on the East called Megabus which is cheaper than Greyhound and hopefully more enjoyable.
As for Buffalo... I didn't see much of it but what I did notice was that most people were friendly (an old lady even made the effort to let me know that slushies were free at 7/11s that day), and a lot of older people were big fans of Burger King.
