The weeks are just flying by and I cant believe that what was supposed to be a 3 to 4 day visit has turned in nearly 6 weeks. I have now moved from my room that i rented and have now rented a one bedroom furnished apartment. This has a stove and fridge and a TV and is cleaned and serviced all for the grand total of Rand 96.00 per day. Every day is spent on the beach and every day the weather is brilliantly hot and sunny.I can see why some people from Europe come here every year.

A few days before Christmas I was awoken by a horrendous screaming and squealing and leaped out of bed to see what was going on. From my vantage point on the first floor balcony I could watch my landlady and her family chase some piglets around the garden. they eventually caught one and this was soon slaughtered with more shouting from the family and squealing from the pig. Goa has a specialty called Sorpotel - This is for special occasions and is made with diced pork liver, kidney and heart and can be pickled. It is cooked and then left for a few days and then apparently it is best re heated. I think i will give it a miss.

Goa being an ex Portuguese area is generally Christian so most people will be celebrating Christmas. Decorations only started being put up 3 to 4 days before Christmas. A lot of the houses string up lights and build little nativity scenes in front of their houses. As usual in India there are always lots of fireworks. Most of the holiday makers here are from Europe so Christmas Eve was the big celebration. Christmas day was therefore very quiet with most people nurselings hangovers. My landlady came around and hung some decorations on my door and gave me a plate of sweets, biscuits, fruit and sweetmeats. I was really touched by this. So at least I got 1 present for the year!!!

Right next to my apartment is a bakery that looks like it is in a cave. It is really primitive but they back most of the bread for the village. The best thing is when we get home after night out the first loaves are just coming out of the oven so for a few rupees when get lovely hot fresh bread.

Nightlife in Benaulim is fairly erratic. Some of the venues advertise live music and when you get there you find someone sing Abba songs while playing a Casio keyboard. Other places like a club called Boomerang will have anything from disco, rock, Indian, Trance and Karaoke all thrown in together. Add fire dancers, jugglers, Russians dancing like Gangnam style and doing the Macarana and washed down with copious amounts of cheap alcohol it turns into great party.

Tonihgt we off to a Full moon party which will then be followed by Julian Marley who is supposedly related to the late Bob and then off to another disco/karaoke/ club called Fiplees. No doubt the next day will be at the beach recovering.

So all in all I am having an awesome time in Goa. As they say Sossegado - chilled - relaxed - calm.
I trust you all had a great Christmas and all the best and happy and safe travels in 2013
