With memories of Koh Samui fading fast and having to content myself with a wee splash in the bath, we decided a break was in order (this was a few months ago but haven't had a chance to know how it is peeps, busy busy) Anyway, She says Ive no to become a Scotiaphobe and that she wants to instill in me the fact that you can have as good a time here as anywhere else in the world, blah blah blah.  If She thinks Im relinquishing my passport shes... how can I put it? Aff her tumshie?

The location was picked around her... not only did she get me last April but as a reward (like Im not reward enough!?), she got a voucher for Stobo Castle Health Spa.  Id like to say thanks to Uncle Bill in Dumfries for such a thoughtful gift, when she eventually got there it was the most relaxed Id seen since we had to leave Thailand - she is now back to her crabbit self but it was nice while it lasted.

So Peebles is the jewel of the borders apparently and what a lovely place it is.   Wholesome is the word, lovely shops, tearooms, bookstores, handcrafts and the best selection of charity shops my gran Irene has ever seen (you all know how she loves a prough!).  Beautiful gardens and theatre workshops, bus shelters that are made of wood not melted plastic, a distinct lack of menshies anywhere and red phoneboxes that dont double up as public toilets, in short it makes Auld Ayr seem like Harlem.   One thing though, where's the sea?

I seem to have inherited the love of food associated with the places I visit, in other words I was a bit of a pie and indulged to the max in my favourite Scottish delicacies - my very very favourite thing in the whole world (after Spike my hedgehog)  is Cullen Skink, the fact that I end up smelling like Ive just done a fortnight on the boats doesnt deter me from smearing it all over my face and hair.  Haggis is also a winner, all you babysitters take note...oh, and fresh trout, so get fishing! PS:  the best chippy ever can be found in Peebles, east coast haddock wins hands down!
We had a couple of day trips to Edinburgh and Melrose, cause for all it was snowy the sun was shining and it was lovely and crisp and thankfully dry.  In Edinburgh we shopped, we ate Italian and I told Her that she neeny think that gets her out of taking me to Italy cause my pallette knows second generation corrupted food a mile off and I want the real thing.   In Melrose we went in search of Robert the Bruces heart and had a general pose-a-thon around the Abbey.  I stayed there a good few hours, sashaying up and down the ruins having a ball and ending up mockit!  We also squeezed in a visit to the farm park and I gravitated towards horses and billy goats, not making pals with the pigs, cows and chicken when I could be eating them, no way am I fraternising.  She is now worried she's going to have to fork out for riding lessons for me...I'll leave you to enjoy these photos but I'll update soon with my traumatic experience of Salou...yes, I was a victim of volcanic ash!

Looking good on two legs make use of them while you can because if you're anything like your mum you'll be spending your formative years on your backside drunk. Edinburgh is a fine city, however you can't beat the land of the weegies for a fine cultural experience. Enjoy your travels and remember I'm just over the boarder if you fancy a change of scenery.
