On Sunday we made our move into real Hong Kong, but not before our final buffet breakfast at Chef Mickey. A Disney shuttle bus took us to the MTR station where we used connecting trains to get to Jordan MTR and thus the Prudential Hotel.
We were lucky enough to be able to check-in straight away and begin our sightseeing. I managed to get Belinda a nice case of culture shock after the Disney experience by starting off with a walk down Nathan Road to the Star Ferry Pier. The trip across the harbour brought us to the new piers at Central, which are further away from the areas of interest than the old facilities.
It took us a while to walk around the ongoing construction work in the area and get to the start of the mid-levels escalator system, where the netcafe I had used on the last trip used to be. Unfortunately the cafe had moved on so we decided to take a funky tram a little way up the street to drop us close to the lower terminus of the Peak Tram. Another walk got us to the station, where we were confronted by a long queue to purchase tickets and get onboard.
Luckily we were able to skip the queue by grabbing combined Peak Tram and Madame Tussauds tickets. The huge queue translated into packed services up the mountain and lots of people at the Peak. We were treated to the monkey bars standing experience on the way up so it's no surprise that we sat down for lunch after a quick view over the city once we had arrived.
Madame Tussauds proved to be entertaining as expected, with a good mix of Asian and western celebrities and historicaly significant figures presented.
Belinda's shopping urges needed attention so we literally visited every shop in the Peak building. To cap off our visit we checked out the view from the rooftop deck, which was quite good with the only visibility loss due to pollution.
By time we had queued up and got back down it was time to take the MTR back to Kowloon and the Pacific Coffee Company for a small dinner and more importantly some free internet usage.
