Besides the start of a ban on smoking at work in France, today also marked our first day at Hong Kong Disneyland. Getting out of our large and extremely comfortable beds was not easy but the promise of the day ahead proved a strong incentive.
We began the day's activities by well and truly stuffing our faces at the hotel's Chef Mickey restaurant's buffet breakfast. On one side there was an array of asian breakfast items, on the other was a generous selection of American foods, with some pastries to represent Europe scattered around. Both of us couldn't help but have 3 courses, there was just so much great food and fresh fruit. We decided that our newly bloated state leant itself to walking the 1.5km's from the hotel to the park, a choice that did prove to be a good one. The first part of the walk took us on the footpath along the road, where we could hear elephants from inside the park. Once we had reached the Disneyland Hotel we continued along the park promenade - a wide landscaped pedestrian mall where Disney music is always in the air.
We arrived at the front gates after our 20 minute walk well and truly in the mood and thus our time in the park started around 10:15am. As is the tradition our first stop was Space Mountain, which instantly became our favourite attraction. We spent most of the morning in Tomorrowland having fun on Buzz Lightyear and the Autopia. Later on we progressed into Fantasyland for some Phillharmagic, some (Winnie the) Pooh and some Tea Cup action. Throughout the rest of the day we managed to squeeze in the Jungle Cruise and every other attraction except for the Disneyland Story, Fantasy Gardens, Dumbo and the Carousel.
We managed some lunch from Tomorrowland's Starliner Diner and also managed to see the Golden Mickeys, the Legend of the Lion King, Disney on Parade, the Chinese New Year Come and Celebrate show and Disney in the Stars Fireworks during the course of our first day at the park. We walked back to our hotel on a high, prancing along the park promenade to the music. Dinner was yummy Kwai Teow from the hotel's outdoor Sunset Terrace restaurant. Despite the evening cold we managed to keep ourselves warm under the restaurant's gas heaters.
