Hey y'all, we're coming to you live from Tom's mobile here onboard the tram in Sydney! The flight over yesterday was good but we were delayed on the tarmac when they couldn't disconnect the tug from the plane after pushing back. Service was good onboard and we enjoyed our personal TV's, even though the menu system said that we were watching the from Australia movie set instead of the to Australia movie programming that was actually showing. Arrival into Sydney was scenic; we had seats on the correct side of the plane to enjoy the harbour views as we descended from the north Our 747 was a little large for Qantas' Sydney domestic terminal, meaning that we had to pull up at an angle and occupy the space of 2 gates. The trip into town on the Airport Link train was Belinda's first time on the CityRail network, with the honours done by Millenium set 14. After we had walked over to the Pacific International Hotel and checked in we took the opportunity to explore the surrounding are a on foot. We ventured up to Central Station's country concourse and then back down through Chinatown before settling with kebabs for dinner near the hotel.
This morning we started with breakfast at the youth hostel next to Central, eating cereal, croissants, fruit and drinks for only $8 each. Following breakfast we once again found ourselves at Central, this time to catch the tram out to Lilyfield and back. Now I finish this update aboard the monorail, having transfered from the light rail at Convention station on the way back into town. From where we left you yesterday we continued our trip on the monorail, disembarking at the convention station to make our way to the IMAX theatre to grab a program to plan our desired screenings during our stay. From the cinema we walked south, past the Chinese Garden to the Powerhouse Museum. In what was Belinda's first visit to the museum we enjoyed most of the main exhibits as well as the limited time Great Wall of China and 50 years of TV displays. We were lucky enough to see Mr Squiggle, the 3 windows from Play School as well as a scary 70s clip from the Leyland Brothers Great Outdoors as part of the TV exhibit. The Great Wall section was very interesting and strengthened our desires to visit the real thing. Unfortunately we ran out of time to explore all parts of the museum in the depth that we would've liked as we had to get out for a late lunch before our next planned activity. Having grabbed some fresh wraps from the Starbucks next to the IMAX we returned to the hotel on the tram. A quick change of clothes saw us back on the tram on our way to Star City Casino. We made a timely arrival at the Lyric Theatre and found our seats at the very end of row J in the dress circle for the afternoon's performance of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Luckily our row was empty so after the first two musical numbers we were able to upgrade ourselves to the A reserve centre seats!
We both thoroughly enjoyed the way over the top production and Belinda has well and truly eaten her over-sized feather hat by saying she loved the show after having severe reservations at the time of booking. Several of the show's trashy musical numbers were stuck in our heads, including "Pop Muzik", from my favourite act in the musical, involving a Chinese mail-order bride and ping pong balls. On our high from watching the show we travelled by tram once more to the hotel for a casual change for Vietnamese dinner near the hotel. We were still feeling motivated thus we decided to catch the monorail up to the IMAX for the 10pm session of Haunted Castle 3D. As expected this was a fun, corny movie that was a good a nice IMAX ice breaker for Belinda. The tram once again returned us to our lodging for the evening.
