This morning we anchored in Monemvasia. Never heard of it before? Me neither. But I am telling you it is worth seeing!
We had to take the tender boat to get on land. While we were planning on walking to the right towards the new town, 2 other passengers suggested we walk to the left towards the old town. It is only about 10 minutes walk, slightly uphill. Not really what I like best. So when I saw a car coming from behind I decided to hitchhike. The nice Greek lady (Fotini) offered to take us all 4 with her in her little Fiat. How kind of her and how great for us.

Monemvasia means something like "one gate only and one street only". And that is how this village is built. You walk thru a gate and then you are in this beautiful village with many little alleys with shops, bars and restaurants. Very nice. There are a lot of cats around. I think even more cats than inhabitants. You could also walk up to the top of the mountain, but we didn't. But we went to the shop of Fotini. She made us try honey wine, wedding sweets and other stuff.
After that we also went on the other side of the bridge to see the new town. It is nice as well and has a cute promenade. But there were no tourists and everything was closed.

In the afternoon we watched for the last time the riggers setting the sails. Then the whole crew (all dressed up) gathered for a group photo. It was fun for us to watch until everyone was in position.

During the afternoon tea & coffee (with crepes) one of the other passengers showed us some fruit and vegetable carving. He is chef in a hotel in Cyprus and famous for his carving. It was interesting watching him. He was really fast.

In the evening we had the captain's farewell dinner.
