We had a very special trip to Berlin in spring 2001. The city was literally being rebuilt, after the last of wht may be called the last vestiges of WWII, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall. We strolled under the beautiful lindens, and the Brandenburg Gate, which was being refurbished. Its famous quadriga of horses had been taken down for repairs. Outside the city we visited beautiful, serene Charlottenburg Palace, and also went to medieval Julius Tower. Berlin is a majestic, yet modern city, with an air of class.
