Vietnam day 3
July 21, 2006

Today we could wake up at six and go on a cruise up the river but since I would be spending the last day on the river I decided to sleep in. First we went to the Toul Sleng Museum. It was so sad. It was about the Cultural Revolution that went on during the 1970s. They would take the educated people and torture them into confessing that they were part of the CIA. They would then kill them. It was so recent that all the torture instruments were still there. They had a room where they would electrocute them. They also had a gallows like thing were they would hang them by there arms pulling them up and down till they lost conscience then they would put there head in to smelly filthy water. As a part of the documentation of the prison at the time they took a picture of every prisoner to come in. They had walls and walls of these pictures. People often think that the holocaust was the last thing of its type but the truth is it is still happening today in many parts of the world. After leaving here we went to what was called the killing fields. I was glad that we visited the Toul Sleng Museum first because then could you only really understand the killing fields. When you walked in there was a huge temple like thing. It was filled with hundreds of the skulls of the victims of the revolution. There was one tree that was really upset me because there was a sign next to it said it was called the killing tree and against it the executers would beat children. In the fields they would often play music to dull the sound of those being beaten. As we drove to our next stop, I was upset by the living conditions we passed. This was by far the poorest part we visited. They houses seemed to be left over junk that was thrown together. As we drove along the road we saw many cattle and chickens just walking freely along the road. This really made me miss vanity and maddy though. I really hope they are both pregnant. Next we headed to the Russian market. It was pretty cool but I didn't really understand why it was called the Russian market. I got two really cute shirts here and a purse. I also got a couple more movies. We went next to lunch. I am getting on the tired side of being adventurous so I mostly had egg rolls and rice. Then Kim and I walked around the area for a while. There were motor car guys like hassling us so we were like holding hands and plowing ahead. It was pretty funny looking back. After lunch we headed to the silver pagoda and the royal palace. It was really cool. They said that the queen thrown was bigger then the queens because they thought she was holier, which I found pretty cool. Kim and I went around trying to find the silver Buddha but didn't manage to see it. The closest thing was a Jade one. It was so hot though and we were dripping sweat, so Kim and I went to play in the sprinklers. It was really fun even though we felt like little kids. After this we hit up one more market and then headed to the airport for our flight to ankor wat. We got in at like 9 pm so we headed to the hotel and had the night off. A lot of us hit up the pool and the bar by it. It was so much fun. I hadn't been in a big pool really since I had left and I really missed swimming. We had quite a few drinks and I was getting up at 430 so I headed to bed.
