Our last days on Bora Bora and time to explore the island! Kevin, Michels son, and the captain brought us to the beach of our Pension in the early morning. Of course our room wasn't ready yet, but we knew and therefore were off to bike around the island!

Bikes rented, and so we cycled and passed the east coast easily. Here you find less luxurious hotels (they are all on the expensive Motu) as there are barely beaches, but more small and shabby houses and cabins for the hotels staff. Actually it is here that you can see the huge differences and gap between those who have a lot of money from tourism and those who still are quite poor - and there are many. As there is only Tourism Industry on Bora Bora people here seriously depend on it and it does not help when all the revenue leaves the place and goes to international companies. Well, this Island is not the best example for sustainable tourism, fortunately that is not what it is known for...

Further on the tour me managed the highest point which is pretty low and then it was all the way down to the Marine museum. A private collection of miniature boat types is shown here and explained very well. Just after we passed by a local grapefruit sales where we bought one and had a chat with lovely Elizabetta and and her husband Guilio from Italy. But still we had to reach our first important place: the Bora Bora Yacht Club.

This because it always was Barbaras (Marias bonus-granny ;) dream to sail in Bora Bora and of course there still is a huge mysterious reputation of this place. When we finally arrived it was already 2 and we decided to have a drink, cheer on Barabara so at least we could have this for her! Then we had a long chat with the manager and he told us how the Yacht club was the 'retreat' destination for the yachts sailing through Polynesia. After having sailed for a long time it would be the first western place for them to wash, go grocery shopping, do repairs, enjoy different F&B and meet other people. Of course the Yacht Club has good marketing and also shirts and surely we had to get one for Barbara, for her Birthday on Sep 1st!

As there were other people from our pension and we did not have that much money with us we should bring it to our room later that night when picking up the others! So highly motivated through all we've done with all those presents and drinks for Barbara we headed off to Vaitape, the city, and to the Bloody Marys, the traditional and well known restaurant.

This place is known for being visited by so many famous people as well for their traditional and classical seafood and decoration. Of course we had to go there, and enjoy the place. Then back to our Hotel we biked and enjoyed a looong waaarm shower!! How good that was. Maria then hopped back on the bike to drop some copied pictures to the Italian couple we've met on the tour yesterday and was back just in time to meet Jorgen on the beach for sunset with our bottle of wine. Here, at the beach opposite of the Interconti we enjoyed the sunset, our first on the Bora Bora Island (all the others on the motu were so much more impressive though!) - and shared a very special moment - and then got back to our pension for dinner!

What a great night we had, just a shame that we were a bit restless because waiting for the shirts to be delivered (reception was closed) so we could know for sure we'd have them. When they finally arrived we slept like babies and just woke up with a beautiful sunrise to enjoy a great breakfast and then were off to the airport...

First a busy boat to the airport, a slightly delayed plane but then we met Eliabetta and her husband again and had a lovely chat and a great time while waiting for our flight to our first atoll:
