To get a feel for the area we drove around the lake on the first day counter-clockwise. Our first stop was Logan Shoals Vista. It was our first decent look at the lake and we were surprised with the clarity and the colour was spectacular. We drove on around the lake and noticed most places cost $8 to see. As we didn't want to stay anywhere long we just drove on making a note of places of interest for the following day. We drove around Dollar Point and there are some beautiful homes. On the way back down we stopped off at Inspiration Point overlooking Emerald Bay. It looked like a nice area with a few trails. When we got back to the hotel I did a bit of research on hikes and we decided to head to DL Bliss Park and do the Rubicon Trail which follows along the lake to Emerald Bay / Vikingsholm.

We packed our lunch and swimming gear and off we set the following day. It was a really great hike and most of the way you had views of the lake, with bays you could stop off at for lunch or swimming. We headed the 4 miles to Vikingsholm and had lunch watching the paddlesteamers come and go. On the way back we stopped off for a swim at one of the bays. The water was cold but not as cold as Skilak Lake in Alaska (I forgot to tell you we swam there!). After a while you get used to it. While sitting on a rock little fish came along and started nibbling on our feet! Very ticklish. After a while I looked at my watch and realised we had to start heading back to the car. After a brisk walk we were back at the car and on our way to the hotel.

Lake Tahoe looked like a very fun place to stay and it was a shame we didn't have more time to explore. There are lots of State Parks and if you pay for one it is valid in all for that day. It must be beautiful in winter with the snow on the mountains. I can only imagine, hopefully one day we will be back again for the ski season!
