Where I stayed
We drove through the state of Mississippi and passed Elvis's birthplace, Tupelo and finally arrived at Memphis! We turned up to Graceland and loved our cabin although we had to go and buy bedding from Wal Mart as linen wasn't provided (our fault as when booking we figured we would have sleeping bags for Alaska which we ended up hiring). Still, it was really nice and close to Graceland.
It absolutely poured down on the Wednesday night but cleared up after a couple of hours. We ended up sitting on the porch swinging in our chair drinking wine and eating microwave meals
The next morning we woke up to drissle but we didn't have far to go to Graceland. It was such a great experience to be there and have some insight into Elvis's life. Graceland was impressive especially the decor. It is sad that he died so young as it looks like he was a really nice person and also did a lot for charity. It was awe inspiring to see all his records that were gold or platinum and all his awards. He was truely a great entertainer.
After spending most of the day at Graceland, we headed into downtown Memphis at 16:00 to Sun Studio where many great people recorded their albums. To name a few, Howling Wolf, Elvis Prestley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash ... When we arrived it was teeming down again so we stayed in the car for about 15 minutes waiting for it to let up. When we heard a tornado warning on the radio we decided we would risk getting wet and run inside to the studio. We weren't hit by a tornado but there were a couple of places nearby that did. Very destructive.
After the tour we decided to go to Beale Street and wandered around. Then the rain started again and we headed in to BB King's Blues Bar. There was live music and it was awesome. Another great night and special experience.
The next day we were up and off to Nashville... and of course the sun was shining.
