After the bright lights of Melbourne we headed south to Phillip Island, the most southerly point of the Aussie leg of our adventure. Phillip has some great wildlife which is one of the main reasons we went. There's a koala reserve, (they also live wild), but the main attractions are the penguins (smallest species in the world), and seals.
There are lots of rare migratory birds here, though I think they were all hiding when we passed by. We did however manage to see a wild echidna (spiny anteater) whilst trekking across the mangrove boardwalks which was pretty cool. And we must now hold the world record for attracting flies, at some points we each had about 60 or 70 sitting on us. Nice.
There's also a famous motor racing circuit and go-kart track here but Andrew wasn't allowed to see that : (
