I just came back from a two-hour walk, and I'm not leaving this hotel again without a compass. I'm walking up the street looking around and thinking, "Have I seen this place before?" Then I look at the map and realize that I've just back-tracked two blocks--for the second time.

Even though today the streets are cool (14C) and damp and misty, the Vietnamese know how to bundle up and enjoy their food and tea sitting on kindergarten children's stools at tiny sidewalk tables. It's much the same as in Saigon where fog doesn't exist because temperatures are almost always above 30C year round, but I'll still need a compass because I have a persistent fog.
