The reason for being in Ceske Budejovice was for only one reason, and that was for beer. Plain and simple really. This was the home of Budvar and the original home of Budweiser. We found a campground and set up and then went into the city for a look. All the shops were advertising Budvar paraphernalia of one description or another. We had a meal in the town square, including a Budvar and then climbed the Black Tower. Even up the top here, you could see advertising on buildings for Budvar. Budvar sponsored everything here. There was only one thing to do. That was to go on the official Budvar tour. Having done the Heineken one a few times, it didn't take much to beat that one, even if it was in German !!!!! When we got back to the campground, we ran into John and Janelle. They were surprised that we were here as they thought we would have moved on. They said they were staying a couple of days, but by the next morning, they were gone. So we went for a drive out to the back of the town where there was a castle. Hblova, also sponsored by Budvar. Nicknamed by the locals, Windsor castle, it was nice and typical with stuffed animals throughout. We had a look and then we went back. In the year of 98, The Czech Republic won gold in the ice hockey, so for all of 40 pence, we went to see Ceske Budejovice v Prague. The two top teams. The home team lost, but it was a great night. The next day, we left and drove down to Ceske Krumlov. A lovely little place with another castle full of stuffed animals and a bear pit with real live bears. Not stuffed, it was amazing. We wandered around town and then we left and headed out. We skirted along the border of Austria, seeing loads of castles. Finally, we came to a border crossing that was beginning to close for the night, so we got our stamp, and entered Austria
