So once more, we back in Munich. Home of the five-storey sports store, where we relieved them of any spare rolls. We hung out and visited our usual haunts, well mainly the one, the Augustiner beer hall in the city, but we did make the effort to go the swimming hall at the Olympic centre. For 5 Deutsche marks, swim and shower. For 2 Deutsche marks, shower for 8 minutes. This was a much better idea. We also did try to get into the Hofbrau, but they wouldn't let me. Something about being to much of a dodgy Aussie !!! We did also visit Dachau. Some say it is horrific but after the Polish deathcamps, this was quite tame, in a strange way. The day before Oktoberfest started, it was the usual 100 club. We went this time with all the other people who were in the campground at the time. Now having done our own, I know how hard it is to do, but I am not going to sit here and say how good it is, but this is disgusting. First morning, is always a fight to get a table, so as usual, by 10:00, we were seated, knowing that the first beer is not served until 12:00. By this stage, its quite full. 10000 people in the tent, this was our third and I still can't get over it. Upon receiving our first beer, a man was walking his woman through the masses, she was dressed in traditional clothes, but her top was painted on. The crowd went wild, photos were being shot and she was also interviewed by a local TV show. As per usual, we drank loads of beer, mainly Augustiner and this year we did not bother to borrow any steins as we already had the full set. We ate loads of chicken and pork and sausages and potatoes. We hung out and did the opening weekend, then our bodies could take no more, so we packed up the van and drove away in the direction of the Czech Republic
