We had missed out Stuttgart, two years previously, but as we were in the Chookster, we were going there. The speciality of Stuttgart though is Porsche and Mercedes. We emailed them both for a factory tour, but Porsche were full, and Mercedes told us to come along. As we had no idea were we were going, we bit the bullet and hit the tourist info and they told us where they were. So off we drove south to Sindelfingen. Now this suburb is just one big Mercedes factory and we had to find the right gate. Eventually we did, and then, they locked us in, so we had a nice big carpark to ourselves. We awoke, early, went in at 08:00 as the tour was starting half an hour later. They gave us free coffee. It was good. We used the toilets to wash ourselves. They were clean, and after Eastern block crepe paper toilet paper, theirs was soft, so we borrowed all the spare rolls in the toilets, both male and female. Melanie had already decided that she would not come, so it was just the four of us. The first bit of the tour was a film. Now this was the best bit of propaganda I have seen. I now wanted to buy one. We then took a walk around the factory and it was amazing. Robots built everything here. We watched a robot put the dash in, but what was better was the robot that put the front window in. One holds it, whilst another glues it, then the holder places it in. The tour guide walked off, we stayed to watch the back window. Just to check how safe it was in the factory, once a robot was coming towards us with a load of stuff, we jumped out in front of it, and it stopped. No insurance claims against Mercedes !!!!! Quite simply, to see a roll of metal and a Mercedes at the end of a production line was amazing. This rates with one of the best tours I have ever done. We went out, dreaming of getting the job that would give us the readies to buy a new one. Melanie couldn't understand the excitement we were all exhuming. Now where can I find a rich wife !!!
