When we woke in the morning, I looked at Lucy and Paul and said, we are 20Ks behine where we are, but that is ok, we can make this up over the next two days, and then we looked outside and saw that the mountains were covered in snow, so we knew it would be cold, but there was nothing more to do but set out.

Now according to the profile, we had a little down, a little up, and then 10Ks of downhill !!! Today was going to be fun !!!

Off we went, a little down, and then up, and then came this muddy downhill, and off we went at a fast pace, but not long into it, Lucy yelled out, we stopped, her rack bolt had broken again. It had lasted just over 6 days before it died, so I grabber bags, slung them over my shoulders, Paul attached the rack to his bike, and down we rode.

Once at the bottom, it was still early, we hoped there would be a bike shop, so we found a cafe, ordered some cafe con leche and tostada, and wondered what to do.

Now this is Spain, and the girl who served us asked us our problems, so we told her, and she spoke to somebody else who told us that there was a welder who could sort us out, so off we rode, and found the guy. He cut the old bolt out, cut a new thread, another Spanish guy got us a new bolt, and we were back in the game !!!

Back on the road, we found we had to climb another mountain. This was only for pushing !!! It was far to steep and slippery, so this is what we did. There was however to be a reward up the top in the next village. There was a cafe who had it's walls and ceiling covered in scallop shells with all the visitors names, who had either stayed there or passed through on a Camino. Once up the top, it was only a simple ride to get there.

Now we had another problem, the cafe was closed but we were told that it would open in 30 minutes, so we sat and waited.

It got colder

It got even colder !!!

There was a budgie screeching away, and after an hour, I wanted to kill it !!! 10 minutes later, Paul was asking how we could eat it !!! Lucy joined in !!! And after 90 freezing minutes, we decided, enough is enough, let's fuck off !!! So we did.

Back on the track, we went down another muddy hill, and then it happened, Lucy yelled out, another part of her rack had given out !!! So as it was only a short journey into the next town, I picked up the bags, Paul took the rack, and off we rode.

Down in Villar de Barrio, we asked if any mechanics were around, but this was Saturday and everything was closed as it was lunchtime. A couple of locals did ask to look at the problem, and whilst discussing this, the heavens opened up, and the world became a sea of hail !!!

As the locals had taken the rack, we found a bed at the local albergue, grabbed some lunch, had some beers and then went looking for the rack. When we did, the guys had removed the broken pin and replaced it with a split pin. So we did all that was possible, we settled down and enjoyed the Spanish hostipality
