Fire in Cebu
Trip Start Aug 23, 1996

Bags dumped, we fired up the lappy as we wanted to download some episodes of a tv show that we had been watching. Amazingly, the internet speed here is superfast !!! Eventually, we left and hit the SM shopping mall as we had a day to kill and needed to buy a few provisions. Personally, I think these malls over here are great as around %30 of them have workers singing karaoke very badly !!! Once we had done all we needed to do, we bought some tickets to see the movie 2012. They were very cheap, less than £2.00 each. Actually I am glad that I paid so little because that is what I thought of the movie !!!
Once it was over, we found a place to eat, sat ack and ordered and waited for our food to arrive, and that's when I felt a buzz against my leg. My phone was ringing, and once I had it in my hand, I noticed that I had missed four calls from Jacinta. She had sent me a text saying that the house next door to our hotel was up in flames and she and Beth were being evacuated and needeed to clear out our room. Lucy freaked as our passports were in a bag in a cupboard and maybe would not bee seen. So we cancelled dinner, found a cab and made our way into a traffic jam. As the fire was quite large, our taxi driver gave us updates on the problem but assured us that our hotel was safe, which was different to what Jacinta was telling me via texts. She told me that the flames were at the back, the place was full of smoke and she had managed to get all of our stuff out.
Eventually, we arrived and found the two girls sitting with all of our shit. Being the type that needs to take a look, I made my way down there and took a look. It was so Asian in the fact that the fire was raging and the locals were fighting each other for a better view !!! I took some photos before I went into the hotel and checked my room to make sure there was nothing left inside. There was nothing left, the girls had done a good job.
After an hour or so, the flames had died right down but our hotel was full of smoke and water and we were told that we could not stay there. It was a downer as the staff there were great, but they said that they had a different hotel for us to stay in, so they loaded our bags into a van and drove us to the new place. It was a lot newer and did not have the soul or personality of the last place, but in times of need, we took it, plus the fact was that it was free. Always a good Jew boy price !!!
And with that done, our time was over, tomorrow we have a flight to Hong Kong, where hopefully the fun will not runout
