It was rather sad getting up in the morning, knowing that there was no more walking to be done, but we still had a
train to catch, from Carlisle back to Newcastle as we wanted to have a walk around and see the place, and there was also the Museum of Antiquities to see.
Do you really need to know about a train journey. No not really, but it was around ninety minutes and we did get to see some of the places that we had seen on the walk.
Once in town, we headed straight up to the museum, but once there, we found out that it was closed and there was no known date as to when it would re-open. You could say that we were both fucked off. After walking all this way, and having read that there were finds in the museum, we were really looking forward to seeing them !!!
There were other things to see, so we jumped on the metro and made our way back out to Wallsend as we wanted to see the fort of Segudunum.
Now compared to the other forts on the walk, there really isn't much to see. We went up the viewing tower to get an overview, and they have marked out the boundaries and such. They have also built a bathhouse in a Roman style which was kind of ok. Across the road was a little bit of wall, plus one they had built themselves !!! After seeing what we had seen over the last five days, we were not very excited. Inside was a museum with various finds so that we did get to see some Roman finds, but it still didn't make up for the earlier disappointment.
Back in town, the day was getting later, so we had a quick run around looking at the bridges before it was time to
head back to the airport and to life in general !!!
And Finally
It was fun being in Newcastle, seeing the baby Harbour Bridge again, but seeing that the museum was closed, we either need to come here again, or maybe walk the wall again !!!
