We love Roman ruins. I don't know how many sites I have been to, but I can't stop going to them.
And now for the story
Back in January, we went to the British Museum and saw an exhibition on the emperor Hadrian. It was very impressive, so we did the best thing that we could do, and that was fly to Rome to see his villa and of course the Pantheon, which is his mausoleum. Both were superb, and there was one other ruin that is synonymous with this man, and some say it is the biggest Roman structure ever built. Hadrian's Wall
First thing we did, was buy the books, and the we started planning. Now to get to Newcastle, a return train fare was £120 per person. Lucy did some digging and found some flights. As it was only £89 return for the two of us, we booked it straight away. We then looked at our packs and realised that they would not do, so we looked at loads of different brands before we decided on a brand called Gregory. They were proper hiking packs. So comfortable.
We did a couple of training walks, 11K's each, and managed to walk this at an average of 5K's per hour. We would shit this in, if this was the case !!!
Leading up to the departure, we were looking at numerous weather sites, and they all stated one thing, rain !!! Oh well, only time would tell as to how wet we would get !!!
Departure Day
The flight was good, but as it was a late one, we did not get to see Newcastle, only the metro and our B&B. Tomorrow would be a new dawn, let the walk begin.
