Now in this world, the world of Uncle Davros, as you all know, I do enjoy the Oktoberfest. Having been eleven times, basically it says it all !!! Now also over the last seven years that I've been working working on/off for BT, one of my mates Iain has always said, "wake up to yourself sunshine and get your ass to Stuttgart as there is more to life than Munich" So I did a little bit of investigating, two tickets were procured, hotel booked and five days after Oktoberfest, we were winging our way to the Cannstatter Volksfest.

Stuttgart

Once off the plane, we grabbed our car and found that we had been upgraded. No shitty Fiesta, we had an Audi A4 !!! Jumped in and hit the autobahn. Fuck me it was great. This car was cruising at 180 K's, and when you are flying at these speeds, it doesn't take long for the hotel to come into view. We dumped the bags, jumped on a tram, and went into town.

We had been here ten years ago and those memories came flooding back. There was the tourist info that we used, and then we left !!! This time, we had a short walk around, but we were not here for this, so we grabbed another tram, and finally we arrived

Cannstatter Volksfest

The tram doors opened, and we stepped out into what is the second largest beerfest in Germany. We had a walk around to take it all in. Here we were, on opening day and there were fuck all people around. It felt like a weekday in Munich, but it wasn't all bad, the food here was so cheap. We grabbed a full pork knuckle for half the price of Munich's, and it went down a treat. We walked into a few different tents, and they were all empty. The bands were playing but nobody was home. I ordered a stein of Stuttgart's Hofbrau, I took a sip and realised two things. One it was colder than Munich's, and two, it was disgusting. I struggled through it, before we moved onto the next one. In the Schwaben tent, they served their masses in porcelain mugs, maybe this was going to be better. We orfered, we sipped, we discussed. Actually, it was slightly better, but still not as good as Munich's. I stuggled through, but at least this tent had life. They were singing the Prostit song every second round, and they even pulled out the beauties like Que Sera, Sera !!! It was fun in there, but I didn't want anymore beer, so we walked back outside. We had a bit to eat before Lucy wanted to try another. It's name was Dinkle, and it was the worst of the lot. So with that, we jumped on a tram and went back to the hotel

Day Two

Now maybe it's because I have been to the Oktoberfest in Munich eleven times, or maybe it was just the bad beer, but it was decided that one day at the Canstatter was enough, and I wanted to see what the Audi could do. Onto the autobahn we went, foot down nearly to the floor, and we saw 213 KLM's !!! It was a new record !!!

And then a palace came into view

Schloss Schwetzingen

You could only do a tour, and as there is only one tour a day in English, we took a German one. It was quite interesting seeing the rooms in there restored state, plus the guide helped out telling us stuff in English. Once finished, we walked out into the gardens and headed for the mosque. Weirdly, there was one there and had been built as a East/West or Ying/Yang thing. Inside, there was no minbar or mihrab, but it was still pretty nice. We wandered around some more but didn't get to see it all as they were huge and we ran out of time !!! It's a pity but it just means that we will have to come back to complete them !!!

And Finally

So we tried the Cannstatter and the beer wasn't really our style, but still, it was fun. I don't think I'd go back but I am glad I experienced it
