Last night I did not drink any wine. It was very disappointing, but sometimes, we need to make allowances. Mine being, I have to get up early, pack, load and drive away, as later on I am going back to London, but at least I have a load in my bag, so life's not all that bad.
Kourion
You know, this place is only just down the road from where I've been staying, but I haven't had the time to get there. The book states, get there early to beat the coaches, so I did. I was the only one there. There is a theatre, but it has been rebuilt, and there are the usual Roman baths, it wasn't to exciting, but the views out over the coast was nice. As I made my way to the last site, a couple of coaches turned up. Timed well !!! In the last couple of buildings, there were some good mosaics to see. Kind of reminded me of the big old Roman house in Merida, but not as good as the villa in Libya. Not everthing can be that good.
Another couple of coaches turned up, so it was time to move on.
Paphos
Now, if Agia Napa is the Cypriot version of Phuket for young people, Paphos is for the 40's and over. It's bigger but still a shithole. I had a walk through it, and I saw enough. Pie and chips, English Breakfasts, blah, blah, fucking blah. If I wanted to eat that shit, I would have stayed in London !!!
However, there is another side.
Paphos Archaeological Site
There were quite a few ruins here including a little theatre, but what makes this site the best in Cyprus are the Mosaics. The colours are not as vibrant as I have seen before in Tunisia, but these are still in place. Many more than the villa in Libya, and all I could do was just stare at them with my mouth open. I was impressed
Tombs Of The Kings
Just up the road was another World Heritage site, and as it mentioned that they were burial tombs, I had to go. Once inside, I walked around a lot of ereoded rocks that had little holes, and then I came across the main site. It reminded me of a cross between Ellora Caves in India and Petra in Jordan. It was carved out of rock, but like Jordan, there were spots for bodies. There was one that reminded me of Kalash Temple in Ellora. It was a huge square rock, carved, but a tomb instead of a place of worship.
My stomach was calling for food, so I had one last dish of Moussaka and Houlammi and the my Cyprus trip was over
And Finally
Cyprus, what a weird place. It's expensive like Europe, but it has many roots in the Middle East. It's fucked up between the Greek Cypriots and Turks, but I did have a good time. So many World Heritage sites, the food, the wine, oh the wine, I'm going to miss you !!! I will go back because now I'm one country ahead of Lucy, and she doesn't like that !!! Can't say when, but it will be soon.
