A girl I know at work said, two days in Valletta, that's way to much, you need to get out there and tick some more things off of the list !!!

Actually, we had to decide between checking out the three cities across the harbour, or go into the countryside and see some other stuff. The other stuff won.

The Plan

Catch a bus to Mosta, check out the church, then walk a couple of K's over to the walled city of Mdina

Mosta

In this world, there are numerous churches that have domes. Actually there are thousands of them, and according to the people who know domes, the two largest are St Peter's in the Vatican City, followed by the Pantheon in Rome. Now number three is in Mosta, and as I have been to the first two, I really needed to tick this one off of the list !!!

Finding places in Malta, can be a little hard. Some of the language looks Italian, whilst other bits look Arabic, and when they speak, it sounds Arabic, but it's ok, until 1964 this place was under British rule, so everybody speaks English here. Still, I didn't ask, well I didn't need to, because it kind of stood out like dog's balls !!!

One other thing, this place is very religous. As we approached the church, everyone was entering for a service, so we decided to join them. This time, we pulled out the camera, snapped a few shots, but it wasn't as impressive as Valletta's cathedral, and we were unable to see a disarmed bomb that went through the ceiling during WW2. We listened to them sing a hymn in Maltese, and for fun, we joined in, singing in English. I knew my Mum sending me to Sunday School all those years ago would come in handy !!! And just for my friend Daktari, I can now say I have been. Tick !!!

The next step was to find a way to get to Mdina. We had a map in the book, and it looked easy enough, but in true Maltese fashion, there were no signs. Now this time, I would have asked, but there was not one person on the street as they were all in church !!! So we caught a bus back to Valletta. Once there, we jumped on another bus and headed over to Mdina

Mdina

Once again, no signs, but there is no mistaking the twin towns of Mdina and Rabat. Rabat has some catacombs, but in true Maltese fashion, it was Sunday, so everything was closed. Actually, they say the only thing to really see are the two sets of catacombs there, so it just means we need to come back another day.

As for Mdina, the walls are impressive. They are the equal of Kotor in Montenegro, but you are not really able to walk on much of them. At the part that you can, we looked down, and there it was, the fucking dome of Mosta !!! We could of walked. I blame it on the British, why didn't they beat these people into submission, all they needed were a few signs, but fuck me, they forgot to put them up !!! It was fun running around, and at 14:30, the cathedral opened. They say that if you missed Valletta's, you need to see this one. The murals were impressive, and the whole floor like Valetta's, was covered in coloured marble gravestones, and as there wasn't a service going, we snapped to our hearts contents.

There were a few other things to see, but like the rest of Malta, it was closed. And as it was getting late, we fucked off back to Valletta.

Then it happened again, our weekend was over and we were heading back to London

And Finally

Good things come to those who wait, or so I'm told, and Malta, well the small part that we experienced was great. The people were very friendly and the food was great, but trust me, the wine, oh the wine, it rocks, so we did the only thing possible, we purchased a load, just to re-live the memories !!!
