Another night train was calling us. This time our heading was South into the mountains. There was a fort down there that was calling out to be explored, and as usual, the night train was shit !!!
Kamyanets-Podilsky
When we arrived, we jumped off and the place was filled with kids. Now according to the LP, there are three hotels for the tight arsed tourist, so we grabbed a cab and was taken to one. Once there, we jumped out and saw that the place was boarded up. That was the first one gone. The next two were meant to be in the same building but they to had been converted into one hotel, and when I asked the price, I shat myself. Yes we could afford it as we would normally pay more for one on a weekend away, but as I said before, we are tight arses !!! We decided to chuck our bags in left luggage instead and head to the fort that we had come to see
First Impressions
The whole of the new town is made up of what is commonly known as EBA. Eastern Block Architecture, and fuck it's ugly !!! However, over on the old side, it was nice, and as it's a Saturday, there were weddings, so Lucy went chasing, I kept on walking to the fort. Before arriving, there is a nice view of it, so we took the snaps.
The Fort
At the entrance, there was a Uki girl spitting chips. It looked pretty funny, especially as we couldn't understand a word !!! Inside, it was a lot smaller than I expected. I thought it was going to be like Chesky Krumlov, but it wasn't. There were some turrets and a bit of a passageway inside, but I can see why it's not big on the tourist trail. We did manage to spend a couple of hours there before it was overrun with Uki tourists. On the way back to the station, we stopped in at the cathedral. It use to be a cathedral, then a mosque, then it was turned back into a cathedral. As for the mosque, all that's left is the minaret, but on top, now there is a huge gold statue. We tried to get inside, but there was a wedding outside, and we were not allowed in, so we went back to the station and grabbed a bus to Chernivtsi
Chernivtsi
As were coming into town, there was a load more of EBA, so we made the decision to get a train ASAP. At the train office, the girl there told us that one was leaving at 20:30. It sounded like the go, so we bought the tickets. We did take a walk around town, and there were a few nice buildings, but not enough to keep us there. Personally, we made the right choice, and we were happy as we were going back to L'viv, back to the Kosmonaut and back to the place where the vodka flows like water !!!
The Train
We bought what we thought were second class sleepers, but in fact they were third class, and trust me, I would rather travel Indian second class than that shit. I didn't sleep, and when the train arrived in L'viv, I was happy.
