Finally the big day arrived. It had been three and a half weeks, and the time had come to leave. I was really looking forward to going to Singapore. Around 15 years ago, my Mum brought me back a t-shirt explaining all the things that you can't do, and the fine you got if you were caught, so I decided to try and break as many as possible in the short time that we were there !!!
Seven and a half hours later, we landed in Singapore. In all of our travels, unbelievably, we had never been there. And being Asia, the humidity was stifling. We arranged a hotel, jumped onto a train and made our way into the city. As we are only here for one night, and as I still feel not the best, we went up market and got a three star hotel !!! It was nice. Far nicer than the shit hotel that we stayed at in Mumbai. So we dumped the bags and went for a walk.
High rises everywhere, you could not escape them. For an Asian city, amazingly there are loads of churches. There was even an Armenian church. In fact, there was an Armenian street. I knew the Indians had emigrated there, but fuck me, Armenians !!! What is this world coming to !!! Also, we had heard about the cleanliness of Singapore, and I kid you not, this is not Asia. So we walked around, taking it in, and then we found a plaza selling electronic goods. Previously, I had found that Bangkok and London, were similarly priced, with Sydney, being more expensive, but this place was cheap. In fact, we bought a bluetooth keyboard on George St before we left, and could have saved $50 AUS. This is called the classical schoolboy error !!! As we had no guide book, we walked around like headless chooks, and then we found the Raffles hotel. We did the touristy take your photo outside the hotel, and then we decided to go in. It looked very nice until a man said that they had a dress code, and I don't know if it was the shorts or my thongs that were stopping me from getting in, but I did explain to him that they were both new. He didn't like this so he had me physically removed !!! Quite easy at this time in life seeing I don't weigh much !!!
Tomorrow morning, we are back to India. I am NOT looking forward to this, so hopefully, we will be only there for four/five days, and then it is into Bangladesh. Our mate Andrew has booked the room, so hopefully, this will be the place that I recover fully from the old Hep .
And as hard as I tried, my wallet did not leave any emptier. Yes I jaywalked and did a few other things, so either I am now a fucking pussy (and didn't try hard enough), or just to good for the local police. I will let you decide that one !!!
