During the last couple of days in Hampi, I started to become pretty sick. My water intake was not what it should have been, and I was also having pains in my joints. Sleeping was also hard, so we checked the LP and it looked that I might have been coming down with sunstroke. On the last night, I was unable to eat dinner so we resigned ourselves to another sleepless night. Once at the train station, Lucy forced me to eat a couple of bananas and after nine hours, we were back in Panaji, Goa.
In the morning, I was getting worse, so we found a hospital. They checked me out, gave me a blood test, and concluded that I didn't have malaria, and that as there was nothing wrong, I had to leave. I struggled through another day, before trying for another hospital. This one private. They did some tests and admitted me straight away as it was now up to five days without eating a meal. I was also down to 73 kilos. I had not been this weight since Lucy met me. Next, the nurses attempted to put a drip into me. They missed the first time and painfully got it right the second time. Being allergic to needles, they started taking blood and injecting shit into me like there was no tomorrow, and then they left me alone. Day two, and they told me that I did not have Hepatitis A. So they took some more blood. On day three, they told me that I did not have Hepatitis B, so they took even more blood. However, on day four, it was confirmed that I now have Hepatitis E. We decided that as I was fucked, I had to get out and fly home for a rest. As we no longer have a flat in London, Lucy booked some tickets for Sydney. On day five, I was allowed to check out, but was also told to rest in India for another ten days. Fuck that.
Back in the hotel, even though I had had 8.5 lites of IV with multi-vitamins in me, I still could not summon the energy to do anything, and I really needed to get some as it was Lucy's birthday and she wanted to go out drinking !!! She dragged me down to a really nice little restaurant, where I managed to eat a proper meal for the first time in a week. The following morning, we caught a taxi to Vasco airport where we started our long haul trip back to Sydney.
Because of this illness that I now have, I have lost all motivation to see the rest of India. There is still loads to see, but I now have no interest what so ever. Maybe after a three week break, things might change, but until then, I am bidding farewell to a country that has so much to see but can cause a great deal of hassle and saying a very fond hello to Sydney. So if you are in town, drop us a line.

Feel well, Dave
Hey Dave, it's Uri from Amritsar.
I'm reading all your travelogs, and enjoying them a lot. This one specifically didn't make me so happy. I hope you feel well, and if you go back to Australia, you'll gain power to go back travelling.
Bye
