Lower Pisang - Manang
Alttude - Ascent
3200 Metres - 3606 Metres - 406 Metres
Distance - 12 Kilometres
Leaving Lower Pisang, you can take either the high road or the low road. Having taken the high road previously, we spoke to the Exodus guides as Marco's porter was so unreliable, we decided that we did not want to walk the extra 2.5 hours via the high road. The low road all the way.
We left Lower Pisang, by 07:00. It was only a four hour walk, but we were hoping to get hot water. Two days in a row !!! As we left, straight away, we climbed, not as bad as the previous day, but at least we were not going down, well, not at the moment. As we walked, there were no villages on our side, but way up on the hill, on the other side, we could see an old Tibetan village. At the top of the hill, we had a break, looked over the edge, and way down the bottom, was Hongde, complete with airport. Maybe we should have flown in !!! As we walked down, the track was really icey and snowy. Very slippery. Carefully, we made our way down to the bottom and we were at Hongde. We stopped for some tea, and saw some more walkers. It was beginning to look like George/Oxford Street !!! Finished the tea, and straight away we were stopped by the army asking for our autograph. We gave it and moved on. Not long after, Braga came into view. Lovely old Tibetan village with loads of bakeries. We had a quick bite and moved on. Up one last hill and we arrived in Manang. We took a room at the Manang Hotel which had views of Gangapurna glacier. Really impressive. As Yak was on the menu, it was our lunch. Very tasty, and would recommend it to anyone. By 14:00, the sun had gone behind the mountains, and it was getting cold. Also, there was no cold water or electricity. Hopefully, as we are having a rest day to acclimatise, the sun will heat up the tanks, and we will be able to have a shower !!!
