We had heard loads of things about Yazd, and actually being able to buy a bus ticket to get there, we were kind of a little excited, and we were on a Mercedes for the first time. We did have one problem. Our seat numbers were 1 and 10, but as Lucy and I are married, we knew we would be sitting together, especially, when a man got on the bus brandishing seat number 9, he looked over, and saw I had 1 and he accepted the consequences.

Once we arrived at the Yazd terminal, the local Extremist taxi drivers fought over who would take us to the Silk Road Hotel. We found our man, settled on a price of one Khomeini and off we went. He had no idea, and tried to off load us at another hotel. I got angry and said to take us to the Jameh Mosque. I saw a sign to our hotel, and up he drove. Once we had our bags out, the little extremist asked for another Khomeini. I told him to fuck off. For some reason, the hotel decided to pay up and give him the extras !!! We grabbed an expensive room, and saw a few Dutchies we had seen in Esfahan who were on pushies. We also grabbed some lunch. The fucking Extremists in their wisdom decided to add 15% to the bill. I vowed to never eat there again. We walked out an had a look around the Jameh Mosque. It was full of Extremists but it was quite impressive, as you would expect of a Jameh Mosque in town. It was getting late, so we had a wander around the old mud brick alleys. They were very impressive. We headed of until we found another old stately home that had been turned into a restaurant. We ordered, and as usual, there were extras. 15%. I was getting pissed off with this. We went back to our hotel. I could not understand why everyone loved this place with all these added extras.

Up early the following day, we went for another walk and as usual, we got lost pretty quickly. It was enjoyable doing this, but we ran into a tour group of old Frenchies. They would not move, so we walked straight through them. How unusual for them to be like this !!! We ended up at Alexanders Prison. Some say that there used to be a prison here, whilst others say that there wasn't. It was ok wandering around. We also visited another mausoleum/Mosque thingy. It was ok as well. Right next door was the tourist information. We went in as we wanted to book a trip to see a load of siters around the area. We waited our turn, and as We were up next, an Extremist tried to push in. Lucy butted as the tourist information Extremist was going to serve his own kind. I was all set to give him a mouthful, when he realised he was wrong, and he spoke to Lucy instead. We booked our trip with him and then went back to our hotel. We met up with a Spanish girl who was going to go to the Towers of Silence to watch the sun go down. These are towers where the Zoorastrians used to leave their dead so that they could be eaten by the local vultures. We arranged an Extremist taxi to drop us Infidels off and to pick us up. The Extremist drove like a mad man. Being in the front, I shat myself once again !!! We arrived and looked up on the hill, and we saw the towers. They were like huge water tanks !!! So wqe climbed up and assumed our positions. The sunset was very impressive and once over, we came down. The Extremist taxi driver drove like an idiot again, nearly having numerous accidents. Dinner was had on the roof as our Dutchie friends had invited us up for a home cooked meal of pizza. It went down a treat and for the first time in Iran, I found myself hankering for a beer. A bit sad, but I really need one !!!

We were up early as we had a driver coming to pick us up for our huge tour of the area. As to be expected, the Extremistr was late. Off we drove and as usual, our talk was about religion and politics. He wanted George to come and visit with his boys. We told him he was an idiot and did not know what he was talking about. Our first stop on the tour was in Meybod. We had a look at a caravanserai. It had been restored and was ok. Next door was an old post office, but the boys did not seem interested in taking us in to see it, so they took us across the road to an old ice house. It wasbig and conical and disued. When we were leaving, we were informed that we would have to tip the guy who opened the door. Slightly pissed off, we did this. We moved onto an old mud brick castle which was around 5000 years old, or so they told us. We were told it would cost us to get in as well, that was when I told the boy what I thought. I explained that normally, when you pay for a tour, all entrance fees/tips are not paid for by the customer. He was quite shocked by this, so we paid for thecastle and let it be. It was interesting walking around, but it was over quite quickly. Once down, we moved onto a pigeonj tower full of stuffed pigeons. Bit of a laugh actually. It had been restored, but the dead pigeons were a bit over the top, especially the one fucking the other one !!! Ardakan was our next stop and we were here to see the Jameh Mosque, which was not impressive so we left to have a look at an old house, woohoo, and then an old hamaam. Lunch was beckoning, so we went for a camel kebab. Not very good actually, but we managed to keep it down. Onwards we went, Chak Chak, being our destination. Here is the most important Zoorastrian site. We climbed to have a look, took our photos, was impressed, so we left a donation. We had one last stop, and this was to another old mud brick village called Kharanaq. They had moved the locals out as it was falling down, but in the middle of it, was a shaking minaret. It was a very tight squeeze climbing up the middle of it, but I made it 3/4s of the way before Lucy and the driver went for the top. Once up, they were both screaming as it was moving. I climbed up and felt the same thing. It was a real worry, to be able to shake the thing. It really did feel like it was going to fall down. That was the tour done and usted. It was pretty good, but a long day. We ended up in another Hamaam that had been converted into a restaurant but with only 7% additional charges. It still shit me though !!!

So that was Yazd finished with. We did enjoy ourselves, but we both still preffered Esfahan. I think it was the added extras.

Kerman here we come
