We walked into Selšuk, looking for a room. We had emailed the ANZ pension where we had stayed before, but the prices were through the roof, so we gave them the flick and settled on the All Blacks. All the boy could say to us was Sweet As. He would have put us in the Wallabies, but it was full. Such is life. As we were so fucked from the lack of sleep on the night bus, we crashed for a little while. Once up, we went to see where John the Baptist was meant to be buried. I think they must have chopped him up into little bits as I have seen so many of his graves. Back into town for a meat and egg pide then we went walking to find the carpet store we had bought off all those years back. It was gone but another one has replaced it. We were asked inside, offered tea, shown carpets, but we did not buy them. We walked on over to Artemis Temple site, but all there is left is a pillar which the Turks have put up. Besides this pillar was a man-made lake with loads of tutles/terrapins/tortoises. It was very exciting !!!!!
After breakfast, we got a lift to Ephesus. This being the premier site of Turkey. BEfore we arrived, our driver asked us if we wanted to visit his carpet store after we had finished. Politely, I told him to fuck off. Happily, he drove on until we were at the gates. Now I had taken an official guide book from the pension, but the fucking driver had dropped us off at the back gate. Fucker. I shouldn't have told him to fuck off maybe !!! So we walked in, opened the guide book and realised it was as useful as a chocolate teapot. So we pulled out the old Lonely Planet and started reading/walking. The book was actually quite informative !!!!! We looked at a few old temples and houses, but there was a lot closed off. We arrived at the Library. It is about the most complete building there. Pretty cool but all the info is in German as the Austrians restored it. Oh well. Across the road was the brothel, but it was closed. I think that the whores were all worn out and they were having trouble replacing them !!! We found the marker pointing to the whores place and then moved onto the theatre. Now this is impressive. Of all the amphitheatres that I have seen this year, this one dwarfs them all. After hanging out here for a while, our tour was over. Now realistically, it was ok, but we were a bit pissed off with the amount that they charge you to get in and a lot of it is closed off. We did see more in 98 and I think the ruins in Tunisia are far superior. We went back, but not via the carpet store. We were offered however, but he looked at me and realised he was on a losing ship. We changed and jumped into a dolmus and headed for Pamašak. We had swam here 7 years ago, so we were looking forward to it. Its not the best beach and you do come out feeling like you have been swimming in brine, but when the temperature is around 35, a swim is good
We checked out because we had bought another night bus trip. I couldn't wait. We hung around the town and watched a load of little boys riding ponies with their families following. We asked around and found out that it was circumcision day. Lucky boys. Now I am glad I have Jew in me because I was to young to feel my own !!!!! The day rolled on, and then it was time to leave. But I had time, to buy one more meat and egg pide for our overnight trip.
I an really looking forward to that NOT
