The cold was doing my head in, and I said to Lucy that she had to decide between Thailand and Tunisia. The previous new years, she had found Morocco to cold, so she insisted on Thailand. Good girl. I only wanted to do one thing, and that was dive. Lucy had never been keen on doing a diving course, and her words were, "I suppose I'll have to do a diving course".

We hit Koh Sahn Road, and met up with a pom I knew from 2 years before who worked for Asia Divers and he lined up our bus to get down there. For this, we gave him a kilo of extra mature English Cheddar. The things people want !!!!! As usual, we froze on the bus. Bloody air conditioning. We arrived at Chumphon and we had an hour to wait for the boat. The boat came, but as the seas were so rough, they gave us the slow boat. We jumped on, and it wasn't long before most people were throwing up. Pussies. We landed, sorted out a bungalow on the beach and then organised some diving for me and Lucy's first course. Then it happened, a couple of weeks before, we had been in Gothenburg with Jessica, then Lucy screamed, followed by a reply. It was Liz, the French girl who had lived with us and Jessica. Spooky. So after leaving, we went with her and her hubby for beers and J's. Well, Lucy didn't do the J's, but as it was the 29th of Dec, we arranged to meet for New Years.

My first dive was ok, but the Frenchy who took me down, tried to make me do a refresher course as I hadn't dived in 2 years. A quick bit of persuasion, i.e., I told him where to jam it,and we were down. Loved it as usual. One problem though, there were two French Canadian girls, neither of them shaved and one had the hairiest legs I have seen on either guy or girl !!!!! It was disgusting. Lucy on the other hand, had started, freaked out, and then got into it

New Years arrived, Lucy had dived, and had her final the next day. We hooked up with Liz and a load of people and started drinking buckets and joints and buckets and joints and new years arrived and buckets and joints and buckets and joints and and and and. 5 in the morning came, I walked back to my bungalow, jumped on my scooter and went back !!!!! 1 more bucket, and we went back. 2 hours later, Lucy, hung over as all fuck, we went to the dive shop. The instructors were worse than her, and they agreed to pick things up later.

Lucy finished her course and went straight onto the advanced. Here was a girl who had no intentions of ever diving and I couldn't keep her out of the water. She had to do a night dive to complete the advanced course. We were down there, when the instructor stops everyone to show us an octopus. It was great, then I saw the hugest moray eel I have ever seen. We went up on board, sat down and Lucy discovered that my nads were hanging out !!!!! I thought I could feel something funny whilst I was diving. I think the fish were nibbling !!!!!We met up with my old instructor, Morten, and he took us diving with reef sharks. It was turning into a great holiday. A lot of the crew who I had dived with before, were still on the island, so we never seemed to stop the buckets and joints and buckets and joints and and and and

One day, near the end, we went diving with a couple of poms from Bristol, Jason and Rich, good guys who carried a tape of the Wurzels and all they wanted to do was drink cider, and this complete gimp from Canada. We went down, and we are having a good dive, when this gimp starts going up and down like a yoyo. He also keeps sticking his fingers in his ears. I asked why and he said that was the way you equalized !!!!! Needless to say, he was not allowed to come back down with us for the 2nd dive. On this dive, we saw more sharks, and we also got to see the Bull Shark. It was huge, and then Lucy started to swim towards it as she wanted some photos. She got pretty close, but as she had already been down, she had to come back up

Finally, the time had come to leave Koh Tao. We bought a ticket for the night train and then after saying goodbye to everyone, we caught the ferry to the mainland, and went to the station. We were sitting there, when all these chickens arrived in baskets. I had never seen live chicken in the basket. Once back in Bangkok, we had enough time to go to the weekend market, to buy all our presents, and then sadly, it was time to leave this fantastic country

As I sit here in London writing this, first thing in the morning after getting off of the plane, we are watching a show about sharks, mainly the Bull Shark. They are man eaters, and 48 hours before, Lucy was swimming up to its jaws. Aaaaahhhh
