These caves have been: temple, battle ground & hospital. In the Vietnam war the VC women used to fire anti aircraft guns at the B52's and hide in the mountain to spy on the US troops on China beach below. Bullet holes show something happened!
The location of Marble Mountain or Ngu Hanh Son is 20km North of Hoi An and 10 km south of Danang.
Book a tour from any hotel or hire a motorbike taxi, you can get a motorbike back from Hoa's Place >>
Great family adventure travel. The kids will love it.
The admission fee is $1 to go up Marble Mountain, $1 for the cave at the bottom.
The legend goes...a dragon came out of the sea on Non Nuoc Beach and laid an egg. After a thousand days and nights, the egg hatched, and out stepped a beautiful girl. The fragments of shell grew into five mountains.
The King of the Nguyen Dynasty named the five mountains after the five essential elements which make up the universe." The mountains names are: Kim Son - metal, Moc Son - Wood, Thuy Son - Water, Hoa Son - Fire, Tho Son - Earth.
We were astonished at the size of it all. Up one way, and down a different path. Have breakfast before you go, there are lots of stairs!
The caves are a major attraction for vietnamese & tourists: Buddha statues carved in the mountain, pagodas temples & even buildings inside caves.
A circular cave leads to a chimney & the summit. The panoramic view is awesome! Click here to see more photos and more about central Vietnam
