We are now officially in Japan.  Konichiwa, oh genki desu ka?  Hai, genki desu.  Exactly!

We arrived at Kansai International Airport at 11:30 local time, which seeing as they're eight hours ahead is about 3:30am in England time.  We all got some sleep on the plane but that was mostly just to avoid watching Two and a Half Men so we're still pretty shattered.  On the plus side, mine and Kirill's watches are actually now synched to the EXACT SAME SECOND.  Nothing can go wrong now.

Within seconds of reaching Japanese soil, Amit offended a security guard by taking photos in the baggage claim area despite a strict no photo policy.  Of trolleys.  Not really worth the risk you might say.  We also saw a woman dressed as a pink helicopter so things are already taking a turn for the wierd.

The train journey through Kansai region to Osaka was interesting.  Mostly it was industrial chic, with the old golf range, although there was one building with a rollercoaster going through it.  Which was nice.

In Osaka we walked aroung a bit in an effort to stay awake but all that resulted in was an extreme case of back attack so we went to a Japanese/Thai restaurant called Elephant in a back alley because it was recommended in the Rough Guide book.  The food was awesome but we have yet to try the local delicacy of takoyaki, Octopus Balls!  Although I haven't been able to absolutely confirm this, I am of the impression that they do not contain actual octopus testicles but you never know.  Needless to say, I will try them tonight.

We're now in the hostel which is pretty swish.  We're sharing a dorm with an old Japanese guy who shut the curtain on his bed the second we arrived so I'm guessing he doesn't want to make friends.  We're going to head back out now and sample the Octopus Balls of Death, so I will report back in tomorrow - hopefully from Hiroshima!

naughty boy!
Amit, you have disappointed me! Having said how well brought up you are, I learn that you are upsetting security guards! I'm not sure about the Octopus Balls of Death - I think I will stick with my tuna and sweetcorn sandwich for lunch....
