onwards to Incredible India!
Entry 14 of 23 | show all | print this entry |
India... We have come to Delhi to rest for a few days, before departing for Dharamsala. The trip has suddenly taken a rather meaningful turn, and we are doing everything in our power to continue on to see, and with hope, recieve the venerable blessings of, the Dalai Lama. Delhi brings back memories for me.. I was last here, before my departure from India, about a year and a half ago. . . but seems like ages. I was sick, and remember not liking this city very much. But this time, we had a chance to look around; saw the Humayun tomb, a beautiful, symmetrical structure recalling the great Taj; and we saw the spectacular government buildings, originally constructed by the British Raj just before their doomed departure... The graduer is quite awe-inspiring.. of what a powerful empire the British commanded at the end of the 19th century. Now everywhere, it crumbles, but not to waste- the Indians have creatively usurped the structures for the gradual creation of their own empire~
