It all kinda came down out of nowhere~ A trip to LA for the weekend to see my old friend Jon turned out to be one of the most fun weekends I've had in a long time. . . We began by visiting a funky and stylish little club by the name of Zanzibar~ had fun dancin a bit with Jon and his beautiful friend Florence. Florence is a friend of his from school who had just quit her job as an engineer at BMW to go to Paris and study to become a pastry chef! The very next evening we delved a little more deeply into the heart of LA, heading to a dirty, overpriced, self-conscious and exclusive club called Element, no sign outside, where Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie have been said to frequent. Even though they hadn't shown up that evening, we were still forced to stand outside for well over an hour and a half as the bouncer bounced the crowd... Finally getting in we quickly realized just what we weren't missing. The music was really nothing special and the girls to match. But I swear everyone there thought quite differently on the matter... and overpriced, whooo~ drinks started around $11! We were celebrating the birthday of Jon's friend Shane, who designs eyewear and bags and such. By some very wierd synergetic consciousness, we'd both decided to kick a handlebar mustache that evening, which made for interesting conversation~ Sunday night was a little more chill. I met Jon's friend Jen, we went to a Korean BBQ, my first time. It was delish! Then later we headed to a club in Silverlake, the apparent hipster district. Monday morning, Florence was gracious enough to drive me back to San Diego, where she was headed anyway, which is the beginning of another wonderful little story...
