Back on the mainland, and no more beach for us for a little while, sadly! We spent three days in Kota Bharu, mostly doing chores and getting organized again after our week in the sun.

We stayed in a really nice hostel/homestay called Zeck's. The owners were really welcoming and you really ended up feeling a bit like family. The only quirky thing was, there were no sinks in any of the bathrooms. Its a very odd thing to just spit your toothpaste on the bathroom floor and hope that eventually finds its way to the floor drain! I swear no one will want us to come and stay with them when we get home - we will be spitting toothpaste on the floor, peeing in any old random hole we find, eating with our fingers, etc. etc!

The town of Kota Bharu itself seems quite nice - we didn't really do that much sightseeing though, it was a bit hot. We did however come across a McDonald's, an A&W and a Kentucky Fried Chicken! Malaysia and Thailand sure are a lot more western than anywhere else we've been on our trip. I got very excited by the A&W and we had our lunch there one day. Of course being in a strict Muslim area, there is no pork served anywhere, so sadly no Teen Burger for me. And they were out of onion rings. So it was a bit disappointing, but I did have Root Beer and Malx a Root Beer Float, so that was good.

Next we are off to Kuala Lumpur on the Jungle Train. Sounds intriguing!

Lots of love,
K & M
