Ah.....we finally made it to Bagan. And the first thing I noticed was it was just as hot and dusty here as it was in Pakokku. Damn!

We mostly puttered about on our arrival day as it was really hot and we hadn't slept that much the night before. We were feeling pretty lucky though as the electricity worked for most of the day which meant we had air-con for a change. (The government really is sporadic as to when it allows electricity to flow)

Day two we tootled about the town a bit, and mostly tried to gear up for sight-seeing in the heat and dust. I just wasn't that keen to be honest. The only real way to get to see the temples is either by push bike (in this heat?!?!) or horsecart. Does any of my family recall how many times I can sneeze in a row? Well, Malx can certainly answer that question now!! We did eventually pysche ourselves up for sightseeing the next morning before catching our bus south.

Now mum, I know you were really keen on seeing lots of photos from our trip to Bagan, but honestly, it was interesting.....for a few minutes. Its just been a few too many temples I think on this trip to muster up the enthusiasm needed for 40C heat and horsey/dust conditions! We did however, persevere just for you and have at taken some photos. The best part of the day I think was meeting all the other travelers. Bagan is a favorite tourist destination of Burmese tourists (ie. Locals) and there were great big groups of people that thought we were as much a highlight as the temples themselves. We had several groups of people wanted to have their pictures taken with us! It was really, really fun! Honestly, the people in this country are some of the most wonderful people I have ever met.

After another yummy Myanmar beef curry (my favorite!) we hopped yet another overnight bus (16 hours this time) south to Yangon. At least this is my last long bus journey for a while.....well, until next week actually. Sigh...

All our love,
K & M
