Hello All!
Adie arrived safe and sound yesterday morning and we immediately whisked her off by bus to Kanchanaburi. We thought somewhere a little smaller might be an easier starting off point than Bangkok for her first time in Thailand. We arrived in Kanchanaburi roughly about lunchtime and sent Malcolm out to find a hotel. He came back with a real treat - a swimming pool and everything! Its great to have mum's about to help pay for nice things. :o)
We spent most of the first day relaxing by the pool and wandering about to see some of the local sights. On Wednesday, we slept in and then treated ourselves to massages in the afternoon and did a bit more swimming. Hard life we lead, isn't it?!?! But yesterday - well, we were rather busy indeed! We signed up for a day trip around the area; starting off with an elephant trek
Today, not to be outdone by yesterday, we went to the Tiger Temple. Originally started as a type of orphanage for a few tigers at a monastery, it has grown into quite the attraction. The tigers (and other animals) and given shelter, food, etc. and bred in the grounds of a large monastery outside of Kanchanaburi. Although its a real tourise trap, how often can you say in life, I got to pet a tiger?? We did! It was pretty darn cool for all.
Now we are off to Bangkok by bus to spend the weekend in the big city. Malcolm is especially hoping to do some shopping. ;o)

Pet the (big!) kitty
. Elder kids - your mum sat on an elephant's head and guided it round for about half an hour! Then she donned her swimming togs and went with her elephant into a river to give it a bath!! After that, we had lunch and then headed to the Erawan Falls. Malcolm and Adie swam in one of the waterfall pools and Malcolm even convinced Adie to slide down a natural rock slide into the pool. After the falls, we went to the "Death Railway" and took a train ride. We ended the day with a view of the bridge over the River Kwai. All in all, a really fun (and funny!) day.Today, not to be outdone by yesterday, we went to the Tiger Temple. Bridge Over Troubled Water
Great to hear from you again. Adie, bathing an elephant had better be on video! We had perfect weather for our Jack Frost winter festival, slightly cold and sunny. I'll not be taking up needle point for a hobby. One project is more than enough! John is working on building a new engine. Enjoy Bangkok. Love, Momma & John
tigers and elephants.
Have just been re-living the tiger and elephant experience. Two days that had 24 hours just like every other one only they will also last a lifetime. The most important things in life are not things.
Thank you again for everything.
