Hi All -

We arrived safe and sound in the big city a couple of days ago. What a change from the slightly slower pace of Mui Ne and the Central Highlands!!! HOLY MOLY there are a lot of people on bikes here!! As we've been in Vietnam for a few weeks now though, we have been crossing the roads no problem - leaving the other tourists in our dust.

We spent most of yesterday and the day before just walking about checking out the shops and the sights. We spent a while yesterday sitting by a large traffic circle (roundabout) just watching the insanity....and practising our panning shots. Its a lot of fun to just sit and watch the world go by here.

I must admit I was a bit surprised to find a lot of shops and houses decorated for Christmas - and not just a little bit decorated either - they go all out here! There is one whole shopping centre we saw that had the exterior covered with polystyrene to look like snow. The attendants for one parking (scooter of course) lot have all been wearing Santa hats, and we even saw a bit of a parade on bikes of blokes dressed as Santa yesterday. I think my favourite so far was the bakery we went to today had all the staff dressed up, and we watched a Santa delivery driver pack up his bike and ride off! Tonight I think ALL the city is out to see the Christmas sights.....everywhere we look there are families on bikes with the little ones decked out in Christmas garb. One of the electronics shops has little chairs set up amongst their outdoor Christmas displays so parents can take pictures.....it almost looks like a Sears studio!

I of course have insisted on joining the fun and made Malx take pics of me with the parking lot guys, in amongst the various elves, Santas, reindeer and penguins about the city! Who says it needs to be cold to feel like Christmas!

Tomorrow we are off to Phu Quoc, a paradise island, for some lounging on deserted beaches for Christmas. We are hoping that one of the fancy big hotels will be putting on a bit of a Christmas dinner though......

We will try to get in touch with as many as we can at Christmas. If we can't, we are sorry and we hope you all have a super time during the holiday!

All our love,
K & M

Let the Eating Begin
I'm glad to hear Christmas does exist in that part of the world. We are trying to keep it to one big meal a day for the next week or so. Have a super relaxing time on the beach. Love Momma & John

Paradise Island! WOW!
Karyn/Malcolm:
Sure sounds like you are going to enjoy a very warm and pleasurable Christmas. Please don't think of us poor souls who are under a blanket of snow. You have it soooooooo hard.

A little more on the serious side, we both wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2008. Please don't get into any trouble or have any accidents over Christmas.

Love

Dad and Connie
